Most 1924 St. Gaudens double eagles are sharply struck, lustrous, and minimally abraded or overall smooth in appearance.
The 1924 vies with the 1928 as the most common Saint-Gaudens double eagle, and it is readily obtainable in Mint State up to and including the MS-66 level. Superb Gems in MS-67, while moderately scarce in an absolute sense, are still plentiful by the standards of the type. There are a few MS-68s certified by PCGS and NGC, but the 1924 is clearly a major condition rarity in that grade.
